2015 December

Happy new year everyone! Three years ago I recorded this song in new years day. To celebrate the beginning of the 2016 calendar year, I am reposting this acoustic song from my archives which is also available on iTunes and Amazon on my album, "If I Grow Up". I wish you all peace and live in the new year to come.

I think 2016 will be a big year for me in my career and in my music. I am excited.about all of the possibilities to come and may hopeful that a few opportunities will avail themselves as well. The song Simplify is one of my favorites from my instrumental collection. This will probably be the song that pushed me over 100,000 listeners. And I thank you all! All the best this year in 2016. Help me support my music and I will keep the new music coming for free! New album coming in February!

We are coming to the close of calendar year 2015 here at Danny Hauger podcasts. December has been a flurry of fun and activities. I closed out my first trimester teaching. I have been recorded lots of new songs over Christmas break. It is been a period of great productivity and inspiration. Last week I had one of my music video shared to the prod community from a very popular Internet blog. They spotlighted my song, "Losing Sleep", which was an honor for me. "Losing Sleep" is one of the top tracks from my current album, "If I Grow Up", for sale now on iTunes, Amazon, with free streaming on Spotify. The spotlight comment says that my voice reminds them of Bob Dylan, made me smile, thanks for the spotlight guys!

In preparing some goals for the 2016 calendar year, I am hopeful that my music will be excepted for distribution on Pandora. That would be a huge step for me is a musician.

I want to thank all the people who have been listening and supporting me on Spotify, Amazon, and iTunes. I want to thank all the people who purchased or streamed songs from my new Christmas album, Danny Hauger Christmas.

As a thank you for all of the wonderful support this year I am hosting another new song demo for the next years album. This song is called new year. It makes sense for me to post it today, even though the song is only about 70% completed. I love documenting the songwriting process and posting free songs for you to download from many different stages of completion. I've been appreciating all of the emails and comments lately. And thank you to all the people who've been following me on Twitter @DHXmusic.

December 30

One day left until we mark the end of an old year
The wishes and the hopes that we had, twelve months ago
Forever hopeful that this uear will bring us a new life
And holding on to all the the things that constrain.

If You'd hold on,
I would bring you a nything I had
If you'd hold on
I'd re-write all of our historues.

Something tells me we should embrace some hope for a new year
Believe that there is good in the world, and be fine.

If you'd hold on
We could make life anything we want
If you'd hold on
I could perpetuate something positive

If we should ever doubt our ground water, and be thirsty
Then let us bottle all of the old, and in with the new.

Merry Christmas Eve 2015! Happy holidays to friends and listeners of all faiths! As I close in on 100,000 free songs given away, I am fortunate to be given the motivation to continue recording music! I welcome your feedback, and am looking for a visual design or graphics expert or amateur to help design my 2016 Danny Hauger digital album cover! You can email me at DHXlive (at) gmail dot com

This song, "This Day" (currently the 3rd mix) was recorded shortly after a great chat with a friend who had since moved across the country. I thought about the lyrics I had before the call, and then I developed more of a concept of time and spending the days we have to the best of our abilities. I started with a chorus effect, a three chord popular progression, and then developed some high note patterns for a melody.

The song needs about 20% more time to be ready for next year's album, but I love the drum beat. It has a bit of Collective Soul in it, and so does the soft single vocal before the harmony comes in. Taking influence from any point or person, that is something to strive for.

My favorite part of the lyrics are the hook "This day, I feel like we're wasting it. This life - we're only tasting it", Good encouragement to me to keep creating, working hard, and cherishing our time. In the spirit of the holidays-- Like ? Between 2007 and 2010 I was fortunate enough to have the greatest job in the world, the General Manager of Titan Internet Radio at California State University, Fullerton.

This was a tremendous time meeting with some of the brightest and funniest broadcasters to be. We were a massively creative bunch, digging through vinyl crates, announcing Titan Sports, and for me, writing and recording sketch radio comedy. Flash forward nearly a decade and I am inundated with podcasts like Comedy Bang Bang, Spontaneanation, and Smodcast, which are very much in the stream on consciousness that I once delved into myself.

While I was watching a Podcasters' Round table with Ray Ortega, I considered creating a "best of" segment with my Titan Radio show "Cozy Corner". Out came my hard drive, and the adventure had begun. A break from curriciulum and lesson planning, I dove deep into the mind of college me, adn this was the result. This was some of the most fun that I could find in my records from what was, "Cozy Corner". Enjoy, I did!

Speaking of being thankful, my guy Miguel Cervantes is the best graphic designer I know. Check out his online portfolio, he supported me, and I want to return the favor.

I am working hard to salvage more of my digital library for another edition of "best of", but if this is all there is, then thats all there is, but the memories and laughs in my mind will live forever. Thanks for listening everyone. Big props to Grant Mueller and Aaron Eastwood for playing a big part in Cozy Corner! I think I have enough of 4 episodes to make at least one more volume this week. There are some classics in here.

Here's a greeting you may be receiving soon if you travel back in time to 2008:

cozy 08 christmas

SPOILERS (watch after the movie) are present, but not intentionally so, no main plots are given away here, in this podcast review of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Luke SKywalker is back (spoilers: not until the end), I had thought he would take a large role in the film. Han Solo is present in a big way though.

There were two main points in which I lost focus on this (overall very good) story. The first was the scrolling text which seemed to have a chronological flaw in the pattern, and another being the fact that movie sagas have a flaw in not being able to (SPOILERS) remove main characters from the initial films in the series. I think the bigger issue is one of economics.

I am a medium fan, and I want people to enjoy whatever they like, Star Wars or otherwise. Just a few thoughts are offered here based on an audience viewpoint during the film.

JJ Abrams did a nice job directing the action. The on-screen performances are nothing short of excellent.

The bigger issue here is, even when movies are made well, if some plot points are off the table because of sequels, then we are limited to the on-screen potential of saga presentations, aren't we? And I don't discount or take away the pleasure of the film, its very well done! Its also great to re-live childhood classics and favorites, but I think the ability to develop one movie into greatness is hindered when sparsely spread by hand into three buckets, rather than one.

Here is 18 minutes, reflecting on this moment in history, when the world stops to watch a movie, and share a story. Which, by the way, is a wonderful thing.

I’m ready tonight,

To find

What’s yours and mine

To find

What I feel tonight

What I feel is right

Why it must be so

Everything I’m knowing

All I hope to find

All I want tonight

Is what I want

Everything I’m knowing

All I hope to find

All I want tonight

Is What I want

I know, I’ve been hiding

In the sun – that shines down on you

In plain sight,

Hiding from the light

Saying only soft things

Beholding to no shadow

Trying to save the soft light

Flying, lost my way to you.

Hide all of my imperfections

Hiding high, its only her words

Its what I want

All that I am wanting

To find, let me take my own way

Its mine!

-- Behind the Recording: It's amazing to me sometimes when I sit down to record especially when I have something in mind that I want to do. It's almost like inspiration, motivation, we're having them use, is something that you can't plan. And isn't that so much related to the way some of our life becomes? It's almost like we can control a certain amount, but sometimes we are leading to situations which help us get to the next level, or aid us through transition phases.

This afternoon I stood up with my guitar, and I realize most of the time I would be sitting down, and my goal is to write an upbeat rock song. Something in the vein of the 1990s Green Day song. Something similar to a pop, punk sound. It's something I've never really been able to record in a complete song with authenticity. I can get the guitar in the seller down, and I will even play about a minute of what I thought was a fairly well gelled rock tune.

Then as I started to mix it, I open up a random session to gym for a few more minutes. It was a 2015 version of a 2013 song called everything I wanted. I had previously posted the acoustic version, and this also available on Google play from the album sleepy kitten. What was unusual about the session was that it was almost 11 1/2 minutes. This was extremely long considering the original track was only three minutes.

During this time, my wife happened to walk in and comment that she really like the direction the song was headed in. Which was funny, because I had no intention of completing this recording session. Are usually would've just laid it down and left it is a framework for future track. Especially since I'm working on a new album for 2016.

Over the next three hours, I gave up on the punk rock song, though I did like the demo enough to spirit into this podcast, and I began trying to find an rewrite the vocal and lyric from the old song.

In short, the triumphant three-minute guitar solo that starts about eight minutes in is something that was so good, I couldn't find a way to bear down and edit it. And after all that's kind of been the point of Danny Hauger music all the time in the podcast, is that since I am not assigned artist, and I am not beholden to a record label, I should be able to release any music that I want to. It doesn't have to make sense, it doesn't have to be auto tuned, it doesn't need to be perfect, and it never has been.

So in the next podcast that you will hear, it will be an uncut 11 minute and 12 seconds rendition of my song and everything I wanted. I wrote it, I recorded it, produced it, and hope you will enjoy it.

Please consider sharing this podcast by the subscribe link, or maybe even picking up a song on iTunes or Amazon, and help support my podcast efforts.

Also exciting news, this summer I will be traveling to Seattle and Alaska. It will be be a special edition if Danny Hauger travel podcast. Last summer we went to Toronto Canada, and the summer before to Vancouver Canada. I love these visits dearly. I hope to discover more of the cold air North American climates when I visit Seattle and Alaska. In Alaska I am targeting Juneau and Fairbanks. There are even talks about playing a live performance there. I will keep you posted. Thanks to the city sponsors for inviting me to come travel to their destinations and bring reviews to our audience in listeners here. And thank you for your gracious continued support to Danny Hauger podcasts.
