The Texas heat was rough but the Los Angeles Angels sit only 3 games back from American League West playoff berth behind the Rangers. The hot bats of Howie Kendrick and Peter Bourjos give hope to a newly reborn offense producing at least five runs and ten hits in the majority of their last ten ballgames.
Tonight begins a series with the struggling Seattle Mariners who are 20 games below .500. Still they display some bright hopes for future stars. Third baseman Kyle Seager is the latest first-year player finding his stroke in the big leagues, as he's currently on a nine-game hitting streak during which he's batting .500 (18-for-36). Seager is one of 12 rookies on a 25 man Seattle roster.
Joel Pineiro hopefully continues to show promise on the mound to regain his starting pitching role. "It's all about staying on top," Pineiro said to MLB.com. "Hopefully, my stuff is sharp. I was really happy with it last time out. I didn't get hit hard until the homer [by Baltimore's Adam Jones]. I was encouraged by how it went."
