About one minute after the stroke of midnight in the Bronx, New York, and the Yankees defeated the Los ANgeles Angels of Anaheim 5 to 2. This game six win sent the Angels home to Anaheim without a game seven, or dreams of a return to the World Series. The Yankees, under direction from an Andy Pettitte reminiscent of his prime, were able to hold of the Angels that had pushed so hard through this 2009 playoff picture.

The Angels had swept the Boston Red Sox in the American League Division Series. In a definitive victory, the Angels fought back and dethroned closer Jonathan Papelbon, giving him his first earned run and loss in the playoffs.

Unfortunately for Los Angeles, Yankees closer Mariano Rivera was not about to let the game drift away so easily. Excellent starting pitching, in association with two pitiful Angel errors in the eighth inning brought the Yankees to their first pennant in six years, and their fortieth in total.

It was going to be an uphill battle for the Angels, and Vladimir Guerrero came through with a key RBI that gave the Angels hope while down 3 to 2, but the game would soon unravel, and the Yankees managed to keep control of the game and the series. Unwilling to let the game slip, the Yankees opted to bring in closer Mariano Rivera right away in the eighth inning, and no combination of Angel’s pitching were able to bring a victory to Los Angeles on this Sunday Evening.

In a series where the weather had its say, a clear night of New York skies allowed this game to be completed without impediment or interruption. Angel’s starter Joe Saunders struggled early, and was pulled out after giving up a one to nothing lead. The Angels would send Darren Oliver, Ervin Santana, Scott Kazmir, and Jeff Weaver to the mound. In the eighth inning, errors by Howie Kendrick and Scott Kazmir would douse any ounce of hope left in the halos dugout, and the Yankees were able to close out the ballgame with a couple support runs in the inning.

Nine Yankees were walked by Angel pitching, and the pair of errors nearly sealed the fate of Los Angeles. Gary Matthews Junior struck out swinging during the final out as a pinch hitter, sending New York to the World Series for the first time in six years.

The Angels will have a busy off season, with more than five big names becoming free agents. It was a great season, dedicated to the loss of pitcher Nick Adenhart. As the post game show of AM 830, the Angels flagship completed, host Jeff Biggs noted that destiny does not always work out the way you want.

The Yankees clinched their fortieth pennant of their franchise history with a 5 to 2 win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

He’s interviewed a variety of guests from Stu Cook, bass player for Creedence Clearwater Revival, to Ingrid Croce, wife of the late famed folk singer-songwriter Jim Croce, and plans on inviting more to the studio this semester.

With four years of broadcasting under his belt, Hauger has now branched out into a new field of topics.

“I’ve been doubling as sports director,” said Hauger. “We started with basketball broadcasts last semester, we’re continuing with live commentary of every game this semester too.”

Local Musician DHX, a college senior at Cal State Fullerton, has recently begun giving all his music away for free. Stockton born, Fullerton resident, Danny Hauger has been recording and self-producing music since he was a Junior in high school. He has composed music that has been used in commercial production, and has played a few small town gigs in Northern and Southern California.

Hauger produces alternative music, but is has been his instrumental acoustic album, “Songs to Wake Up To”, that has generated interest from local press and international music fans. This ten track EP full of soft riffs and layered acoustic guitars is being given away digital via internet downloads, completely for free.

“It’s something that didn’t seem like a big deal until the downloads started stacking up”, said Hauger, “I just wanted to get the music out there for people to enjoy”. Hauger sat humbly as he discussed the album of enjoyable relaxation tracks, mostly guitar, and tapped along to “Simplify”. When asked about the track, Hauger said, “I wrote that in about 15 minutes, and recorded within the hour. It was January 2nd, and all the rush of New Year’s had passed. Someone had asked about resolutions, and I thought, simplify, keeping the difficult aprts of life in context. I picked up my guitar and started strumming the main pattern. It was an organic process from there, and came together very quickly.”
Enjoy it they have, said visitors to his podcast upon being given the opportunity to download the album from Hauger’s podcast website, and full length previews are also there to listen to before committing to the download.

When asked about money, Hauger said, “I wasn’t making any already, so I figured there was nothing to lose. I just want my music to be heard, and by the web stats, that objective is going well.” Over one thousand downloads have been counted in the week that “Songs to Wake Up To” has been available. Songs like “Jackson Valley” were inspired by the natural surroundings of Northern California, life decisions, and calming auras of backseat car rides, thoughtful reflections, and gentle acoustic chord progressions.

Hauger hopes that this generosity will take him and his music somewhere, someday. He invites donations after downloads, but says no one takes part in that sector. He hopes that if people pass around hi music enough, a record label may take notice one ay and offer some professional studio time or record deal.

For now, Hauger is content with the idea of people all over the world listening for free to strokes of a pick that he has authored. “Everyone likes music, and money is tight, I hope people enjoy listening to the music and songs that I have loved creating”.

Hauger’s podcast is also on itunes, at Danny Hauger Podcasts, and downloads and samples are posted at http://dannyhauger.podbean.com. The album is about 45 MB, and Hauger emails the link for anyone who wants to add his EP to their music collections. He is accepting offers from several area record labels, and still considering new offers.

Starting about a quarter of an hour past 10:00 AM on the Pacific Coast of California, Michael Jackson was celebrated as a pioneer of pop music and icon of the celebrity world in front of 20,000 adoring fans and family inside of Staples Center in Los Angeles. A commendable job by Los Angeles police to control the crowd, keep traffic in the area moving, and secure the site of a solemn, yet celebratory event to honor the life of a man who changed the way that the music industry operated, and donated more to charitable organizations than any pop musician in history. His life was honored by those closest to him, in a dignified and classy manner that any man or woman would be proud to have seen to honor their own life. The ceremony was tasteful and refrained from being the circus I had expected. Processions of speech after speech honored the legacy that Michael Jackson has left for future generations. A philanthropist, a showman, and a mind that was unmatched according to the people closest to him, were able to tell an international television audience how their lives had been impacted by the man who has graced as many covers as any individual in history. Usher, Jennifer Hudson, John Mayer, Mariah Carey, Brooke Shields, Kobe Bryant, and the Jackson family, spoke humbly of their friend and colleague. Magic Johnson, in particular, put in perspective a moment of fried chicken with Michael, which he called the greatest moment of his life. For over two hours, family members and celebrities took the stage, singing and telling stories of a man who never quite grew up. A member of the Senate introduced a piece of legislation to be debated, which would honor Jackson as a national treasure.

In Sports news, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim may be the biggest surprise in the American League.
Bats are swinging as the halo is lit up in Anaheim for the sixth straight game

After a middle of the road start, the Los Angeles Angels have erupted into a red-hot halo flare of big bats and stellar pitching. After a sub-par start to the season, the Los Angeles Angels have become the hottest team in the American lead going into the upcoming All Star game.

In the past 14 games, Torii Hunter has exploded with a flurry of RBI’s, including one 3-homerun game, bringing his season total to 16. Certainly baseball fans have been motivated over the past week to mark Torii’s name in their All-Star ballots. The following game, mid-line slugger Juan Rivera had his own multi homerun game, hitting two.

This production as of late has been even more impressive considering big bat Vladimir Guerrero is finally starting to swing the bat in the way Angel’s fans are accustomed to seeing.

After Wednesday’s come back victory against the San Francisco Giants, the Angel’s finished their second consecutive series sweep, and their sixth win in a row, also the same number of games over .500 for the first time this season. This comeback was in large part due to singles from the team’s leading hitters, Guerrero and Hunter. in the eighth inning. This win was amplified by the defeat of NL phenom Tim Lincecum of the Giants. The loss was the first for Lincecum since April 12th when the Giants visited the Padres.

Chone Figgins also has rallied from a slump and looks to be one of the most impressive leadoff hitters in baseball, and is beginning to put together a small string of consecutive games getting on base. Figgins’ double was the turning point for the Angel’s rally at AT&T Park.

Angel’s pitcher Kevin Jepsen earned his first Wednesday with strong support from relievers Brian Fuentes and Justin Speier. It seems that the hitting and pitching for the Angels has come into step left to right as the team looks ahead to a series against their LA rival Dodgers on Friday.

It will take a lot for Manager Mike Scisocia to keep his team focused and aggressive during the upcoming All-Star break. If the current trend continues, the Angel’s will have some much needed momentum going into the second half of the season.

The Utes finish their season with a 28-31 record while Fullerton (45-14) moves on to the Super Regional round. This marks the tenth trip to Super Regionals for Cal State Fullerton.

Fullerton freshman Tyler Pill earned his 11th win, only allowing three runs over eigh innings. For Utah, Stephen Streich (2-4) took the loss, allowing eight earned runs on 10 hits in four innings of work.

While the pitching was solid, it was the offense that propelled the Titans to victory.

Utah put up an impressive eight hits during the game, led by two hits from Michael Beltran. Utah player C.J. Cron drove in two of the Utes runs, he also smacked a solo home run to right field in the fourth inning to score first for Utah.

The Titans were on fire all night however, led by Khris Davis who finished with three hits, including a pair of home runs. A milestone was reached by Head Coach Dave Serrano, who earned his 200th career coaching victory as the Titans earned their ticket to the Super Regional round with a 16-3 victory. The packed house at Goodwin Field supported the offensive onslaught and players gave credit to the Orange Curtain after the game for adding extra enthusiasm to push the Titans into Super Regionals.

Three titans had three hits each, and every starter took a base at least once during this contest.

The Titans now wait to face Louisville next weekend. Louisville comes in ranked 12, Cal State Fullerton at 2. The Cardinals have matched a school record for wins in a single season this year with 47. Coming off an impressive victory against Vanderbilt at Jim Patterson Field, Louisville has momentum coming across the country to meet their Orange County opponents.

This series will get underway Friday at Goodwin field, at 10:03 Eastern time, and will be broadcast on ESPN2.

Louisville head coach Dan McDonnell is optimistic about his team’s chances, but the Titans will prove to be a formidable road block on the road to the 2009 College World Series. McDonnell is hoping that Junior Adam Duvall will take the reigns and develop leadership potential as the postseason continues. The series will continue on Saturday at 5:00 PM, and finish up Sunday at 10:00 PM.

Initially, the single, “Know Your Enemy” is a let down. American Idiot, Green Day’s 2004 release, was a tremendous undertaking, about thoroughly enjoyable before the mainstream radio played it to death. Still, it was a great revival of modern rock that has maintained up to this 2009 release.

In overall review, this album serves as great background music, but rarely rises above mediocrity for a band that has few accomplishments left unturned. I had great hopes for this album, and it has some nice moments, and is overall an enjoyable listen. Overuse of similar 2004 themes of conflagration, political underpinnings, and rebellion leaves me asking why the band has left the storytelling traditions, uplifiting angst, and selfless love songs with a punk beat, from 90’s favorites like “When I Come Around”, “Paper Lanterns”, and “Scattered”. The Green Day songs of today are often too centered on war themes, reaching today’s teens, Christian themes, and image orienting around tight jeans and black clothing. The Green Day I long for was quietly aging and expanding melodically, without political agenda, performing the best live rock in the world, without trying too hard.

21st Century Breakdown is not a must have album, it lies on the bottom three of the band’s all time album list, and does little to expand upon the band’s outstanding resume. For a five year wait since the last release, I felt slightly disappointed. Drum fills are sounding similar to American Idiot, production of the vintage Green Day guitar has faded into the high-mids of every other band out there, and Mike Dirnt superstar bass sound is buried in a wall of sound on most occasions.

Still, the vocals are crisp, though processed, but the album IS listenable. If you don’t expect a great Green Day album, this is a decent work, and should not be judged so harshly as I have here, as an eternally thankful fan that this Bay Area band continues to tour, and never neglects to play the hits. So, pick up the album not for its overwhelming quality, but in appreciation for band that keeps giving to its fans, and gets as many credits for “good and decent” albums as they want, and still are trying to push and create a new identity that includes so much more musical complexity than a three man power punk group that set things off from an energetic pen and the passion to change the world of rock music.

The highlight of the record is “Last Night on Earth”, the rousing ballad with great musical backing, and a sample of what potential the band still carries for future albums. The question I ask is, how long does the band plan to market against guns, youth angst, and rebel yells down hallways in exchange for embracing the tremendous musical talent of the group, and aspiring to write their next great accomplishment, the best album in the world, only accomplishable through abandoning the themes that have roused through the last two albums.

And in breaking news on May 21st, Wal Mart refuses to carry Green Day’s newest album, unless it is revised for content and language, which the band proudly refused to do, way to go big business!
