Danny on the Sports Lodge on the Boy Scout Pinewood Derby

As a Boy Scout myself I recall trying to get my achievement badges and facing the many team and family building activities brought therein including the world famous Pinewood Derby that is supposed to be built by the child and supervised by adults or parents. Roger Lodge talked on AM 830 this morning ona Tuesday about not knowing the first thing about building the car, and we discuss possible outcomes of cheating, sanding the tires, and the disappointment that becomes associated with loss and failure when a wheel comes of the car. Enjoy this look back at the best of the Sports Lodge, and maybe your own moments of building, or watching the assemble, or a Pinewood Derby car. Don’t get caught cheating! Standard parts only!

The kid is supposed to build the car, I’m guessing that happens 8% of the time, my uncle did spray a kick-ass paint job on that hunk of wooden trash that would ultimately lose a wheel and crash onto Los Angeles radio. Maybe it wasn’t such a bad thing after all.

Information seekers everywhere will have a hurdle to their keyword searches on Wednesday, January the 18^th as Wikipedia will be completely unavailable for 24 hours. The editable encyclopedia will be going dark in support against the piracy acts being debated in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Stop Internet Piracy Act, or SOPA has several tools that could enable more denial of access to users from internet providers. The associated Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA) is also being protested by many sites going black in a few hours. The Motion Picture Association of America is calling the demonstration a stunt.

Please read the acts for yourself for the most complete picture of the situation. It is important for everyone to have a free and open internet, or as close to such as possible. Sue Gardner from Wikipedia believes this to be a threat, more than a stunt: “Today, the Wikipedia community announced its decision to black out the English-language Wikipedia for 24 hours, worldwide, beginning at 05:00 UTC on Wednesday, January 18 (you can read the statement from the Wikimedia Foundation here). The blackout is a protest against proposed legislation in the United States — the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the U.S. House of Representatives, and the PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) in the U.S. Senate — that, if passed, would seriously damage the free and open Internet, including Wikipedia.”

Titan Basketball broadcasts were so much fun, and we got to re-live the excitement of the November 2009 upset of the UCLA Bruins at Pauley Pavillion on the Sports Lodge on AM 830 KLAA with Roger Lodge. Big thanks to Brett Parmenter and Alex Jaich for being a part of that broadcast. Ironically Barbara Walters retirement announcement in the top ten stories of the morning sparked the entire conversation. Lots of fun with the excrutiatingly exciting Titan win from 2009, one of my favorite college memories. Enjoy!

Live Radio proposal on the Sports Lodge

Best of the Sports Lodge Back in the Ground and Larry King

A thrilling moment t report from this morning’s Sports Lodge with Roger Lodge. I got to talk to larry King on the phone for seconds, realizing the dream of many in the radio and television industry who dream of becoming a fraction of the broadcasting legend that Larry King represents.

Prior to that, one of the funniest moments I can remember recently when we discuss Larry King’s desire to be cryogenically frozen after his death, and James Allen’s request to put him back in the ground. UCLA failed over the weekend, while USC was able to pick up the win. SC won the game against a struggling Washington team, and are now 5-2 in the PAC 12. They prepare for a big match-up with Oregon this weekend.

A special treat for Angels fans on monday night at 7:00 PM when we take a trip down memory lane and open up the Classic Baseball vault with Mike Witt’s gem against Texas from September 20th, 1984.

Wednesday and Thursday Steve Carroll and Dan Wood will bring you all of the action from the ice as the Ducks are hoping to start a winning progression. Wednesday pre-game begins at 7:00 PM to prepare you for the Kings Ducks match-up when puck drops at 7:30 PM. Thursday the scene shifts back to Honda Center for an instant rematch of the two freeway teams with a pre-game at 6:30 and puck drop at 7:00 PM. Today Dan went into the studio to lay down drum tracks for Danny Hauger.

He is releasing his new cd which will be a collaborative project with several different musicians. I will update with the release of the project and everyone who was involved.

A special thanks to Nate Macy for recording and producing the the drum sound. The set used is a 1972 Ludwig solid maple shells. Cymbals were Ufip customs 17″ and 18″ crash, Sabian AA 21″ Rock Ride, Sabian 14″ Rock Hats. Pedals DW 9000’s. 3″x13″ pearl piccalo snare. Audix drum mics, Neumann overheads. Great times are always to be had in a studio session, having fun is what makes the experience worth while. And a great finish product of making music together is what the main goal is. Stay tuned for the release date of Danny’s new project.

More classic Angels games on the way! Tune in today, November 7th, at 7:00 PM for the July 11th 1967 classic game! I won’t spoil it, re-live history for yourself in one of the most well-known Angels games of all time.

Tuesday at 7:00 PM enjoy another classic baseball vault broadcast from July 11th, 1989.

The Ducks play on Wednesday at 7:00 from the Honda Center hosting the Nashville Predators, and again Friday against Vancouver. We’ll have all the action live on AM 830.

This is the Sports Radio AM 830 Blog for Friday, October 21st, 2011.

In planning for a new album release and expanding my reach as a struggling musician I have prepared this simple start-up guide for Soundcloud.

The fastest way to get started is to sign up with your Facebook account. After all, this is another social media type program to publicize your audio. From there you can upload your first song in less than two minutes and publicly post your productions to your Facebook page by sharing your link. Nothing remarkable until you see the playable embed you just placed for all of your contacts. It looks great and plays instantly after selection. This is the best method of sharing to Facebook for my music yet, and I had to share that with all of you.

Crossover Radio Show Debate Rex Hudler and Lugnuttz with Danny Hauger

Nothing throws radio into more exciting territory than a good, old fashioned, crossover show host debate. Lugnutzz Radio held over for Rex Hudler to come on and defend statements about broadcaster’s knowledge. Does a former player have a more intimate view and opinion of sports topics? Does Jim Rome come at a disadvantage for never playing the game? Can a broadcaster give an adequate inside opinion of expertise? Email your comments to danny@dannyhauger.com or leave a comment here. The statement that set it off, “The guy never put a jock on”.

Then the show took a fun twist, a debate, some laughs, and a discussion of sportscasting, great and weak, Jim Rome, and radio in general. Short cameo for me in the middle, lots of fun on Sports Radio, AM 830, KLAA. NASCAR, Baseball, and fun, a little bit of my radio day.

For the week of October 17th, 2011, its time for the Sports Radio AM 830 Blog! It’s World Series Week on Sports Radio AM 830.

Lots of weekend winners on AM 830. The Ducks got off to a hot start Sunday evening with a 1st period goal from Bobby Ryan. On Corey Perry night the Ducks were in full flight. The Oakland Raiders were victorious but unfortunately sustained an interview to quarterback Jason Campbell. Saturday on AM 830 the Texas Rangers defeated the Detroit Tigers advancing to the World Series for the second consecutive year.

Looking forward to another big sports week now. Listen to the Sports Lodge with Roger Lodge every morning live at 7:00-10:00 am for recaps of all the major stories in sports.

Coverage of the 2011 World Series begins Wednesday, October 19th at 5:30 PM PDT. From Josh Hamilton, “We expect to win this year”. Listen in and find out what history has in store for crowning a champion.

The Anaheim Ducks have a Monday night affair at HP Pavilion from San Jose, California. Broadcast begins at 7:00 PM for a fierce hockey contest.

Roger Lodge in the Elevator and Ducks Home Opener on Sports Radio AM 830 KLAA vs Sharks

Roegr Lodge spent the greater part of the first hour stuck inside the AM 830 elevator at the Big A on Friday morning. KTLA was on hand for the event. I got a little audio from the event as Roger saw me through the crack in the elevator. Live Los Angeles Radio! Can’t beat that! How pro to keep the show on the air.

Anaheim Ducks in Finland to Kick Off 2011 Season

9:30 pre-game time everybody - its time for hockey! Tune in now to the Sports Lodge on Sports Radio AM 830 and www.am830.net for all of the MLB playoff action and preparation for the puck drop on the first game of the 2011-2012 NHL season. Game time is set for just after 10:00 AM PST.

The home opener is a week away with the San Jose Sharks but the Ducks take flight from Helsiniki, Finland. International hockey action begins on this Friday on your home for the Ducks, AM 830. Listen in as the “Finnish Flash” Teemu Selanne continues his historic quest for the hall of fame and a Stanley Cup for the Ducks.

Tune in and find out who will be the early season star for Anaheim. Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, and Bobby Ryan take the line ready to get the new season off to a strong start.

Saturday and Sunday Sports: The Ducks play the New York Rangers at 10:00 AM. Following the Ducks listen in for exciting Notre Dame Football. Sunday morning we have Raiders football against the Houston Texans at 10:00 AM.

The October 6th Studio Sessions yielded this free song offering of “Return”, one of the songs that I would think any songwriter would love to have produced. its one of the collection that I value playing every live chance and recording this was an overdue investment which I think paid off nicely. I began in studio laying down the acoustic and vocal tracking in one take. I then took one second pass for harmony and solo and left it at that. Threw in a little ambient shaker (who wouldn’t) and mixed i tall down. Very little processing. 30 minutes to cook up this track for your enjoyment, documenting along the way. Breaking in the new Protools situation, with the old materials, combined in a new way - like a stew of left overs brought to a boil, then backed way way off. Enough ramble…after this, new song download, one take (uncut) and right to the podcast. Names West Hall Ramble, this track is a three recording blend of drum track, live bass and guitar progression over a production-like bed for a 16-bit rendition of what easily could have been an early 1990’s video game for an SNES (Super Nintendo) or SEGA title. Over the weekend on Sports Radio AM 830…

The MLB Playoffs were live on AM 830 Saturday. Stay tuned for post season baseball this week!

The Oakland Raiders played a strong first half and took an early lead over the New England Patriots before Tom Brady battled back for a Patriots victory. The final score was 31-19.

We also heard extra NFL action as the Ravens defeated the Jets 34-17. New York’s offensive line could not protect Mark Sanchez. Mark had 3 turnovers all of which resulted in touchdowns for the Baltimore Ravens. It was a rough game all over for the Jets and Baltimore had no problem running down time in the second half to coast for the win.
