Today I spent an hour in studio trying to work up a style that I enjoy listening to a lot, but with my own signature twist. Even though I consider myself to be an independent musician, an indie sound usually is more hip, cutting, and edgy than the laid back and reflective flavor my music normally takes shape into. I started with bass today and a simple drum pattern that builds throughout the song to really generate a more indie feel to the song. I like the way it turned out, although this is just a first micx, the instrumental performance was pleasing to me. I hope you will enjoy it to. I'll also be posting the instrumental only version for listening.

I guess my cajon has been making phone calls to my half Mexican side, because tonight I was pulled into this four-chord jax progression that was begging for an open-air instrumental session. It was recorded simply and efficiently using a Samson USB mic on the cajon tapa, and two tracks with my acoustic guitar. I really liked the jazz style groove of the isntruments together. I'm still a total novice on cajon, but I even managed to work in a left foot slide up and down the tapa. Listen close for it when the chords change to the bridge bit. I really had some fun recording this, and I am headed directly back to the Friday night studio session to try and work in some lyrics if they can come about naturally to add to the guitars. Wish me luck, and thanks for listening!

The song a week (#SongaWeek) Challenge continues to week 4. Help me grow my music in 2017 by downloading free music? Good deal right? This week is a semi-psychadelic feeling acoustic and electric groove called "See the Sun", about going outside. Who would have thought in the booming Industrial Age of America or the steel revolution that we would one day right a song about getting away from computers to go see the sun? Well, we're here, and today I did, it was a gorgeous day in San Francisco at the Maritime Museum and Hyde Street Pier! Then I came home and finished this song, and I hope you enjoy it!

“Come Outside” Music and Lyrics by Danny Hauger

I was a fold into a crescent,

I was a petal on a rose out in the rain.

And i’m not here to hurt you.

I’m not here to hurt you.

Come outside and see the sun.

Don’t stay inside and hide from everyone.

Come outside, and have some fun.

Come outside,....

There’s a chill in the winter wind.

I feel the season changing again.

How many more are we guaranteed?

How many lives are we gonna lead?

Come outside and see the sun.

Don’t stay inside and hide from everyone.

Come outside, and have some fun.

Come outside, and you can see, see the sun.

On January 21st, my old buddy and one of my early guitar influencers Greg Kettelhake came into studio. We were hoping to get in an acoustic jam session like old times. We did. Actually, within the very first chord progress we strummed out, we had the basis for a brand new acoustic song. In the key of E Minor, we began to develop and hash out a two guitar solo, recorded one take a piece. It can't get more simplistic than that. We liked the interplay of the two guitars and panned them to separate channels. Greg jammed on the cajon, and in30 minutes or so we had a complete piece, named "Owl Gray". Enjoy and thanks for supporting the podcast.

Inspired by a few takes I did with a heavily hacked John Fogerty, Creedence Clearwater Revival type vocal, I ranw ith the idea of a similar Western Rock influence for this which really plays ona  country-esque chord progression. Some lap steel would have gone great into this carnival tune. Sounds like something I want to play at a County Fair performance one day. I really got caught with the hook and had to go record it, even though I was actually in the middle of building a sound proof box for my voice overs. Everything had to be halted to get this song made in the middle of the day, and it was worth it. I hope you enjoy "Out of Trouble", its a song about the trade off for family from the days of wild action to the days of routine traction. Thats a pretty catchy line, I'll have to remember it in case we ever have an interview about this one. Thanks for listening everyone! I loved recording this one start to finish, it was a lot of fun!

“Out of Trouble” Words and music by Danny hauger, Copyright 2017

I challenge you to tell your best story,

Try and entertain the room.

I’ll have you beat at every moment of glory

But no one to go home to, when all the partying is through.

I’ve been wasting all my time/lfe

I’ve been staying home at night.

I’ve been changing all mys trips, so I, can stay out of trouble.

So if you’re tired of all your solo mornings,

When you’re left with your head aching.

Trade your limousine for my Toyota Camry

Ride yourself in routine, that never ends.

I’ve been wasting all my time (And who I used to be)

I’ve been staying home at night. (So you can be with me)

I’ve been changing all mys trips, so I, can stay out of trouble.

Today we tracked some freeways and took a trip to Berkeley, CA. My good buddy Matt Aguire stopped by the studio and for the first time in more than 10 years, we recorded a brand new song. Unplugged, acoustic, and in one solid take, we recorded the guitar rhythm and cajon into a fun and upbeat acoustic song. Tomorrow my YouTube Channel will feature a full mix, but enjoy the first studio cut of "Anywhere you Want (Cruising 101"! Thanks for listening and supporting the podcast!

“Cruisin Down 101” by Danny Hauger and Matt Aguire

Crusin’ down,

101,

Got the top down,

In the sun.

Cross the bridge,

To your town,

To pick you up when you’re feeling down,

(When you’re feeling down) Feeling down.

From Saratoga to Santa Cruz.

I’ve been out here looking for you.

From Monterey to Cambria,

I just can’t find you.

From San Francisco to San Jose,

You’ve been out there trying to find yourself

From Santa Barbara up to SLO

Anywhere you want, we’ll go.

I have always loved recording instrumental acoustic guitar. This track happens to be a direct input recording, but I started playing unplugged over my baby's bassinet. I started thinking about wanting to play a soft melody for her to listen to and enjoy. She likes to watch me play and I enjoy performing for this little concert of one. Especially over the apst week or so, I have the chance to take my guitar and just strum a little bit of original composition. This particular recording is called "Cotton Candy" and I hope you enjoy relaxing to it as well, its free, and my baby seemed to enjoy hearing it! Its Song #3 of the #SongaWeek Challenge for 2017 from Danny Hauger free music podcasts!

Two weeks in a row checked off for the 2017 song a week challenge. (#SongaWeek) This week I am really liking the multiple part harmony, panned left and right, with a slight EQ and some surf rock guitar effects to bring an upbeat feel to a laid back groove about trying to find the right way to communicate effectively in a relationship. The song came together in just under two hours. I really like the flow of the lyrics and the progression of the guitars, and how they are slight without being overbearing. There are some nice hidden guitar fills if you take a dedicated ear towards them, and the lyrics have a fun play on the way we travel and how our minds tend to wander when our phones come into our hands. Don't forget the people in the room out there!!

Holding You Lyrics by Danny Hauger

Figuring out who I am,

And figuring you are

I feel like a rocket sent me out

Propelling every orbit, and trying to find your star.

And I’m a mile away, but two thousand years too soon.

You watch me spin into space,

As you now come into view.

You said “I told you not to come looking for me,

I Came out here alone”.

I knew just right where to find you

Sitting in space and texting on your phone.

Why are you so disconnected?

I had to travel the length of our solar system

Just to get some perspective.

I’m the one who’s holding you

I’m the one who’s here.

I’m not the one who’s sculpting you

And teaching you to fear.

And you’re the one who’s standing by,

You’re the one to wait

And I’m the one who’s telling you

To take into your own hands, your own fate.

I accepted your challenge Twitter! Today is installment one of the weekly challenge to write a new song. #SongaWeek (it started here on Danny Hauger Podcasts). It starts with an unusual progression and production method inspired in part by the YouTube series "Record like a Pro" (its pretty awesome) and it got me thinking of how to widen my vocal tracks, and I brought it to an extreme example in the recording of this brand new song! I hope you enjoy it! Happy New Year everyone!

“Forgive Me” / “On Your Feet Again” Lyrics and Music by Danny Hauger

Forgive me - I look the other way
Forgive me - if I let you go astray, one more time

I’m the one who cared for you, since the day you were born.

I’m the one who’s there for you, when, you needed someone to hold you.

And there’s times that have been hard, and that’s for sure

When I doubled down, when I trusted you, When I lifted you, when I found you on the floor

What’s it gonna take, to get you on your feet again
